As you read this holiday letter, I hope it finds you caught up in the “spirit of the season” and imbued with merriment and joy. Hard to believe that 2013 will soon come to a close. I pen this letter to express gratitude to you for being a part of the Advantage family. Because our lives move at neck-breaking paces these days, I also try to fill you in with news, happenings, and highlights from the year at Advantage Media Group.
2013 has been a fun year at Advantage, with good organic growth and many firsts. Our mission continues, helping busy professionals write and publish a book to grow their business. This year we welcomed Patrick Hanlon, Jenn Ash, Allison Looney, Katie Biondo, and John Witty to our team. We were named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing private companies in America for the second year in a row, and named the #12 position on the Best Places to Work in SC Small Business list. We launched Speaker U with Advantage author Steve Gilliland and in January, will launch sales training portal Jack Daly Sales U with Advantage author Jack Daly, and a health and wellness university called JNL 180 with Advantage author Jennifer Nicole Lee.
Pat Williams was awarded our first Lifetime Achievement Award for his 50+ incredible years of writing, speaking, and teaching. Misty Young was awarded 2013 Author of The Year for exemplifying what it means to “build your business with a book.” Misty’s book From Rags to Restaurants: The Secret Recipe has built her a lucrative speaking and consulting business. Honorable mention goes to Advantage authors Mary Beall Adler, Todd Smith, and Dennis Hursh.
Personally, 2013 has been a year of discipline, focus, and fun. I logged 286 workouts, 42,000 air miles, and 68 hotel nights. Hoping not to be labeled a workaholic, I squeezed in two personal trips. I enjoyed 5 days in Napa Valley mid-summer, and a 9-day tour of London capped by installation as a Fellow into the British-American Project. I even met up with Advantage author Richard Guyver for a pint while across the pond. I crossed two more Presidential libraries off my list, with only 4 more to go. I visited Eisenhower and Truman in Abilene, KS and Independence, MO respectively. In my quest to visit every major college football stadium in America, I crossed Stanford Stadium from the list. I made an annual trip to Clemson to watch my Tigers beat the Georgia Bulldogs. As if I could possibly forget…I am now an uncle of…wait for it…two nieces. My brother Justin and his wife Erika gave birth to Maya Witty and Taylor Witty in early September. I quickly outfitted them with Clemson paraphernalia. My brother, a George Tech Yellow Jacket, was none too amused.
The success we have had in 2013 is a credit to you. Thank you for being a part of the Advantage family, for inviting us into your home or business, and for allowing us to participate in your great book or online learning project. It is our privilege to help share your Stories, Passion, and Knowledge with the world so others may Learn & Grow.
May your seas be stilled this holiday season and may you find a bright sunrise in the New Year.
